FSPassengersX

Posted by Matt On October - 23 - 2010

Boy I really suck!

I tried the demo of FSPassengersX tonight. Great little program that lets you create a virtual airline, pilots, etc and puts virtual passengers in your cockpit. It also does some cabin ambiance, and is a cool overall program.

Anyhow, about 30nm till KLAX my GoFlight MCP crapped out. Unintended emergency! I looked and suddenly I was going about 350 knots. Don’t ask, I pulled the flaps. Whoops. I told you I suck! :)

The 737 Overhead Explained

Posted by Matt On April - 11 - 2010

I’m about to build my overhead, parts should start arriving in the next couple of weeks. That being said, it’s always good to know what all those switches do!

I came across this site from Captain Chuck Harman, which gives you a image map of the 737 Forward and Aft overhead panel. If you click a section it enlarges. Finally, clicking on a button, switch or gauge will give you it’s purpose and/or explanation!

Using the MCP and doing an ILS Landing / Approach Hold

Posted by Matt On June - 15 - 2009

So I’ve learned there is a difference between an ILS landing and an autoland. ILS basically lets you get aligned with the runway and once you have your approach locked into the localizer (VOR lock for horizontal and then once you have the glideslope in your PFD you can hit APP) it’ll take you down the glideslope. But this won’t flare the aircraft and will just, it seems, run you into the runway. Autoland will take you in completely unassisted.

Anyhow, here is a couple more useful videos I’ve found:
