Just ordered PMSystems

Posted by Matt On October - 31 - 2009

Been a long time coming. I first ordered the Boeing-Type Glass Cockpit, PFD, ND, EICAS from Enrico on January 28th, 2004. But my sim never really took off and I ended up a year later going to the Cessna. Well, back in the 737 again, I’ve finally come full circle and have just ordered PMSystems from Project Magenta!

This will give me not only the functionality of my fire/caution and warning/six packs that I currently have, but will give me the systems logic I’ve been missing, and of course you need this for the overhead to work!

Next part of the project will be the overhead but for now, I’m probably going to mount an LCD and use it that way.

Windshield Part 2

Posted by Matt On October - 28 - 2009

Well ran into some problems the moment I turned on the projector. Shadows from the window frame, ugh! I tried moving the projector forward, but the image became too small to fill the large area I had before. (And still want)

Thus, as with all situations, you improvise. I had to pull the frame that was mounted to the wall off, and started to mount it to the mip/cdu bay. Then, I had to pull the whole thing back from the wall about 2 feet. This really makes it more of a tight fit but not much I can do about that.

Anyhow, after doing that and firing up FSX, I must admit, it looks pretty nice!

Started building a Wind Shield

Posted by Matt On October - 28 - 2009

Have started building a wind shield. I don’t have room for a full shell, but am trying to create some sort of support structure that will hold up the forward overhead, etc. Time will tell on that.

So far I’ve got the captains window done and the center post.

Captains Glare Wing wired up

Posted by Matt On October - 20 - 2009

Just finished wiring and testing. So far master caution is working only with TSR. I think Fire will only work with pmsystems but I’m trying something. In the mean time here is a quick picture!

Glare Lighting

Posted by Matt On October - 20 - 2009

So I’ve put in the LED lighting. It’s really bright and I’m going to have to diffuse it. I bought a sheet of acrylic light diffuser today at home depot and will have to see how that is going to work. That’s for another day. So far, here is what the lighting looks like!

Looks like all LED’s for me

Posted by Matt On October - 18 - 2009

I did some experimentation today with 12 volt car bulbs. Man those suckers just get way too warm for my liking. I’m not one to chance things like bulbs / heat and wood. So looks like an all LED solution for me. Might not look authentic when it comes to lighting, but I’ll take safety of my home and family any day over lighting in a simulator.

The lighting under the MCP is pretty nice and I might use one of those for the glare as well.
